Last spring, a man named Randy White was injured in a shooting at an Atlanta gas station. After being discharged from the hospital, he struggled with the aftermath of the incident and eventually moved back to his hometown in Coney Island. However, he continued to face challenges, including a car accident. A friend advised him to seek therapy, which led him to the Trauma Recovery Center, an organization that provides support to victims of violent crime in low-income communities. Since the opening of the first center in San Francisco in 2001, 52 similar programs have been established across 12 states. These centers aim to provide both immediate assistance and long-term emotional support to victims. In New York, three trauma recovery centers have opened in the past year with the support of City Council speaker Adrienne Adams. However, these centers require additional funding to sustain their operations.
