Amazon cloud unit kills Snowmobile data transfer truck eight years after driving 18-wheeler onstage
·1 min
Less than eight years after introducing the Snowmobile, Amazon has taken the 18-wheeler out of service. The semi was designed by Amazon Web Services (AWS) to help customers move large amounts of data to the cloud. However, the Snowmobile is no longer listed on the AWS website, and the company has stopped offering the service. AWS cited the introduction of more cost-effective options for moving data as the reason for discontinuing the Snowmobile. Amazon’s decision to axe the Snowmobile comes as the company implements cost cuts across the organization. AWS still leads the cloud infrastructure market and offers other data transport services such as the Snowball Edge and Snowcone.
