The rain during the opening ceremony in Paris has raised concerns about the water quality of the River Seine for the triathlon competition. Despite swimming in the Seine being illegal for a century, organizers planned to clean up the river for the Paris 2024 event. However, heavy rains have led to increased pollution levels, resulting in canceled training sessions. Nevertheless, organizers remain optimistic that the race will proceed as planned. The upcoming heat wave and high temperatures add additional challenges for the triathlon event. The city of Paris has invested $1.5 billion in cleaning up the river, implementing infrastructure projects like a rainwater storage basin. However, E. coli levels have been exceeding acceptable limits, potentially risking the athletes’ health.
