Telegram Founder Charged by French Authorities #

The founder of the social media platform ‘Telegram’ has recently been charged by French authorities. He is accused of running a platform that facilitates criminal activities, including drug trafficking and the distribution of child sexual abuse material. The founder’s lawyer has denied any direct or indirect connection to the abusive behavior occurring on the platform and argues that holding the platform owner responsible for such actions is absurd.

The issue of platform accountability for disseminated content has always been controversial. Telegram’s more lenient content regulations and large group chat size have drawn the attention of Paris prosecutors. Some analysts believe that these factors make Telegram more attractive to criminals and extremist organizations. The French judicial process is notoriously slow, and the investigation may take months or even years to conclude.

NASA Administrator’s Decision on ‘Starliner’ Spacecraft #

NASA’s Administrator, Senator Bill Nelson, has decided that Boeing’s ‘Starliner’ spacecraft will return in an unmanned capacity. Two American astronauts currently stranded on the International Space Station will return to Earth next year using SpaceX’s ‘Dragon’ spacecraft. Nelson emphasizes that this decision prioritizes safety.

Senator Nelson also mentioned plans to discuss the causes of the Starliner’s technical issues with Boeing’s CEO. Initially, NASA aimed to reduce reliance on SpaceX by integrating Boeing’s spacecraft into their Commercial Crew Program. However, Boeing’s financial difficulties and the potential high cost of redesigning the Starliner might lead to their withdrawal, potentially bolstering SpaceX’s monopoly in the U.S. space industry.

Warren Buffett’s Birthday and Berkshire Hathaway’s Market Value #

On his 94th birthday, American investor Warren Buffett received an early, historic gift. His company, Berkshire Hathaway, crossed the $1 trillion market value threshold, making it the 8th U.S. and 9th global company to achieve this milestone. This is noteworthy as all other trillion-dollar U.S. companies belong to the tech sector, marking an unprecedented achievement for Berkshire Hathaway.

Buffett’s long-term investment strategy has transformed Berkshire Hathaway into a diversified investment conglomerate with influence across various sectors. Initially a textile manufacturer, the company became an insurance giant that provided funds for acquisitions and stock investments. Berkshire Hathaway’s portfolio includes holdings in banking, railroads, aviation, and technology. Despite his preference for cash holdings, Buffett has been reducing his stakes in companies recently, such as Bank of America where he cashed out $982 million.
