Ford Shifts Focus to Hybrids and Affordability in North American EV Plans #

Ford has acknowledged that the American electric vehicle (EV) market has not met their original expectations. Customers are reportedly becoming more price-conscious and range-anxious. In response, Ford is making significant changes to its EV plans. The company will now focus on hybrids and affordability, adjusting its roadmap for North American vehicles to include a broader range of electrification options with lower prices and longer ranges. Ford has decided to replace its next lineup of all-electric SUVs with hybrid models, which typically offer shorter battery range but longer overall range when combined with a gasoline engine. Despite the changes, Ford will continue to produce EVs, but at a slower pace. The company’s next entry to its EV lineup will be an electric commercial van in 2026, followed by a groundbreaking electric truck in the second half of 2027. The truck, codenamed ‘Project T3,’ will feature bi-directional charging and improved aerodynamics. Ford aims to lower the cost of its electric vehicles by improving battery manufacturing.
