This diet may reduce Covid-19 risk, new research suggests

A team of researchers in Indonesia conducted a review that suggests following the Mediterranean diet may reduce the risk of getting Covid-19. The diet is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, which is relevant because inflammation has been associated with the development and severity of the virus. The team reviewed six studies with over 55,400 participants and found that participants adhering to the Mediterranean diet had a lower risk of infection. However, the evidence regarding the diet’s impact on symptoms and disease severity was less certain. The study recommends incorporating elements of the Mediterranean diet into one’s lifestyle, alongside other preventive measures such as vaccination and mask-wearing.
