College Football Playoff Expands to 12 Teams in 2024 #

The 2024 college football season will see a major change as the playoffs expand to include 12 teams. The realignment of conferences has also reshaped the college football landscape, with notable moves including USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington joining the Big Ten, and Colorado, Arizona State, Arizona, and Utah joining the Big 12. Unfortunately, the rivalry game between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, known as ‘Bedlam,’ will no longer take place after Oklahoma’s move to the Southeastern Conference (SEC). On the positive side, the move has revived the epic rivalry between Texas and Texas A&M. Notably, this season will be without two legendary coaches, Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh, who retired and moved on to the NFL, respectively. The new College Football Playoff (CFP) format will include the top four conference champions and the seven highest-ranked teams, with the top four receiving a bye in the first round. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be hosted by the New Year’s Six bowls, and the championship game will take place on January 20 in Atlanta. Georgia is the top-ranked team in the preseason polls, followed by Ohio State, Oregon, and Texas. Other teams to watch include Michigan, Florida State, and Washington. The season commences on August 24 with a game between Florida State and Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland.
